For many of us who perform puja, alms, tithes, sacrifices, charitable donations, and the like, it can almost seem like a pro forma quid pro quo for feeling better about ourselves and life. But rather than simply performing the act, we are guided to cultivate immediacy with others who are suffering and help to alleviate that suffering. Has there ever been an occasion where you delve deeper beyond the mechanics of a charitable act and feel genuine mercy for someone else?
