Week 7 Day 1; Buddhism; Sonadanda Sutta 4

"Let not the venerable Sonadanda do that. It is not fitting for him to do so. If it were the venerable Sonadanda who went to call upon him, then the venerable Sonadanda's reputation would decrease and the Samana Gotama's would increase." (Sonadanda Sutta 4, from the Digha Nikaya of Buddhism).
The colleagues of a Priestly Brahmin rebuke him for intending to visit the Buddha, out of a concern for the depreciating politics of protocol that may result. Do you ever experience an occasion where you are criticised for engaging with another person, other than because any lack of merit by that person but because of the appearances? If so, how do you proceed?
Love And Peace.
